There are several good reasons why NEMRS should be developed in an open source project.

  1. An open source project of such ambitious scope will attract the best minds and experts from across the world to contribute their efforts to the project.

  2. It will allow many innovative projects to proliferate, to create components for NEMRS or for other tools and systems that interact with it.

  3. It will encourage development of novel technologies

  4. It will be far cheaper than creating the system by hiring a team of software developers or a software company.

  5. The project will continue to live even if it loses major sponsorships. This is another reason why developers and other experts would want to work with such a project
